Yes, you read the title right. The perfect lipstick shade, scent, and formula you’ve been dreaming of can now be created to fulfill all your lipstick needs.
Hello again! Thanks for stopping by! Today I will be sharing my experience of creating my very own customized lipstick at the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in Toronto. I have known about this service for quite some time now and have been wanting to experience it for myself. So, I finally booked an appointment for my sister and I at the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in Toronto back in May (yes, I’m really late on sharing this blog post but hey, better late than never right?!)
Moving on, if you don’t already know about the Lip Lab experience, let me explain. Bite Beauty is a Canadian (woot woot!) beauty brand that offers many different lip products ranging from lipsticks to lip liners and lip treatment products online and in-store at Sephora or on the Bite Beauty website. Currently, there are three Lip Lab locations in North America including Toronto, New York, and San Francisco. To create your own lipstick, you must make an appointment online on the Bite Beauty Lip Lab website. You can walk-in, however, there is never a guarantee that you will have a chance to participate in one of the services as they are usually booked in advance.
You can choose from several packages offered at the Lip Lab. The first package (which both my sister and I purchased) is the custom lipstick servicewhich allows you to create one or two lipsticks (one lipstick is $55 per person and two lipsticks are $80 per person). You have the chance to choose from 200 exclusive Bite Beauty lipstick pigments, your preferred formula/finish, and your preferred scent.
The second package (which I definitely want to try in the future) is the bespoke service. This package costs $150 per person and allows you to create two custom lipstick shades with your preferred formula/finish and scent, as well as an exclusive lip kit. You also have the opportunity to add your lipstick name to the lipstick tube, which isn’t offered for the custom lipstick service.

My Experience:
We arrived quite early to our appointment so we went to get some coffee at a nearby café (the usual). After that, we went back to the Lip Lab and took a lot of videos and pictures for this blog post and for Instagram. When we were finished collecting content for my social media (#doitfortheblog #doitforthegram), we started our custom lipstick experience. Our Lip Lab artist, Jen, was so kind and helpful. We also spoke to a few of the other Lip Lab artists and they were also very kind. We started by removing our lipstick that we were wearing and used the Agave lip scrub to remove any dead skin. (Side note, it tasted and smelled so good). Next, we moisturized our lips with the agave lip mask. This mask was literally the BEST lip mask I had ever tried in my life (no joke). I have added it to my Sephora wish list and am still confused as to why I don’t hear people raving about this product! The lip mask is supposed to be used at night, as it has a very thick consistency. It was very moisturizing and not to mention it smelled and tasted wonderful (yes, I accidentally tasted it oops haha 🙈). (In case you were wondering, you can purchase the lip mask HERE and HERE).
After prepping our lips, we got right to work creating our custom lipstick. Jen showed us the many different lipstick pigments (which are exclusive to the Bite Lip Lab) and we got to choose one as our starting shade. I chose a pink pigment while my sister chose a nude-brown pigment. Then, we chose our preferred formula for our lipsticks, which was matte because my sister and I both LOVE matte lipsticks. Next, Jen went to work mixing the pigment with the finish about three times. Each time, we tried the shade and had Jen change it up a bit. After Jen mixed three lipstick shade choices each for both of us, we selected our favourite one and then chose our scent. The scents I chose for my lipstick were cherry and vanilla, and my sister chose mango and coconut. After creating the perfect shade, formula, and scent of lipstick, Jen poured the formula into a lipstick mould and put it into a freezer. After removing it from the freezer, she placed the lipstick tube over the frozen lipstick and VOILA! Our custom lipsticks were made!
The process of creating a custom lipstick was so much fun! It was a very unique experience and is perfect if you are trying to find the perfect lipstick shade, formula, and scent, or if you are just a makeup/lipstick junkie like myself. I had a great time at the Bite Beauty Lip Lab in Toronto and would highly recommend it to everyone!
