Because wearing colour is so much more fun than just neutrals.
Hello loves! I hope you’re all safe and well. Today, I wanted to share some tips on how you can effortlessly add colour into your everyday wardrobe if you’ve been wanting to but have been a tad hesitant or just simply love your neutrals. When it comes to styling colour, I’ve been told by my fellow readers and followers (that’s you!) some variation of “That looks so great on you, but I could never pull it off.” However, I believe that everyone can pull off colour and easily incorporate it into their everyday style. If you’re a neutral lover or just simply afraid of styling bright colours, then you’re in the right place because I’m going to share four tips for you to slowly incorporate colour into your wardrobe. Before I get into the tips, I owe a little shout out to one of my good friends and co-worker who is actually the queen of colourful style because she inspired me to venture out into wearing and styling more colour into my everyday style which I had never done before.
Anyhow, keep reading to learn how you can style and incorporate colour into your own wardrobe!
- Accessories
Styling colourful accessories is the best place to start if you are truly afraid of wearing colour and always gravitate towards neutrals. Wearing colourful accessories be it a handbag, a pair of shoes, jewellery (I would suggest earrings), sunglasses, or hair accessories can easily add a pop of colour to any outfit without taking the focus off of your full ‘fit; not to mention, it’s also an affordable way to style colour into your wardrobe because it doesn’t require investing in bold coloured clothing which you’re unsure whether you’ll get wear out of or not.
2. Muted Shades or Pastels
Another great way to incorporate more colour into your everyday style is by wearing muted shades or pastels. Wearing muted shades adds colour to your outfit without being too loud like a bright, bold colour would. For example, if you’re wanting to style some pink into your outfit, instead of choosing a bright pink top, pants, or piece of outerwear, opt for a dusty muted pink. Another colour that might seem a little more difficult to style would be green, so instead of styling a bright or neon green article of clothing right off the bat, opt for a muted olive green as it can easily be styled with neutrals since they’re all earthy shades. I personally used to purchase a lot of muted-coloured clothing in the past and even though adding colour into my everyday style wasn’t difficult, I did always have the fear of not being able to style certain items several ways. Although this isn’t the case for me anymore, it definitely did help me out and I found that I still got my wear out of the muted shaded clothing.
If you want to skip the muted shades, then definitely opt for pastels. They’re a fun way to incorporate colour because they are brighter than muted shades but not as daring as a supersaturated/bold colour. There’s a misconception that wearing pastels or bright colours during the fall/winter season is not stylish. However, if you take a look at some previous fashion week runways, you’ll see that pastels and bright colours can be styled during the fall/winter season, which I think is even better because it makes you stand out when everyone else is stuck on wearing neutrals.
3. Makeup
All the makeup addicts will love this tip haha! If you’re still a little wary about styling colour into your wardrobe but you feel more comfortable with being bold with your makeup, why not sport a bold lip colour or eyeshadow look? Wearing a neutral outfit and adding a statement lip or eyeshadow is another great way to add colour to your everyday look, and the best part? It can be easily removed if you don’t love the look.
4. Prints/Patterns
Styling prints or patterns, be it on a top or a pair of bottoms, is yet another way to add colour to your wardrobe without having to leap straight into wearing a bright or bold colour, full monochrome, or colour block outfit. When it comes to prints and patterns, I would suggest opting for clothing that has a neutral or muted base colour (by “base colour,” I mean the colour that the print is on) but if you’re feeling extra daring, don’t be afraid to go for a top or pair of bottoms with a brighter base colour.
That’s all for today’s blog post! Thanks for taking the time to read and check out my blog!
